“Its Not Just a Market, Its a Community Event” – East Brunswick, NJ Patch

The East Brunswick Spring Farmers Market is a celebration of good food and good
company. “We have the opportunity to buy fresh, healthy, locally raised foods,” says the market manager, Theresa Lam, who is also a board Member at East Brunswick Enviromental Comission and NOFA NJ. “It’s not just a market, its a community event,” adds Liti Haramaty, founder and secretary of the Friends of the EB Environmental Commission and Bord Member of the EB Enviromental Comission. “I look forward to seeing friends and meeting new people…Oh, and did I mention that there will be live music played by students from Rutgers Mason Gross extension?”The market is also a great educational opportunity. A growing scientific evidence suggests that a diet based on locally sourced food is the healthiest choice for us, our children and the future of the planet. The market is an excellent opportunity to learn more about that: “Its important to know where our food comes from, how it was raised, and why it is healthier for us,” says Theresa Lam. “Come and ask the farmers these questions, they love to talk about their products and there is so much that we can learn from them.”Theresa has put together an impressive roster of farms and artisans including cheese from grass-fed cows’ milk, artisanal breads made with local ingredients, pasture eggs, whey-fed pork, pastured chicken pot pies, grass-fed beef and lamb, handmade whole wheat and gluten-free cookies, fruit pies, jams, preserves, honey, wine, the best mushrooms you’ve ever had and much more- all locally grown and made. If you are lucky enough you will be able to even get yak and llama meat from Woods Edge Farm.So your family and friends and your own shopping bags!, go to market and enjoy a Saturday of good food, health and community.Saturday, April 20, 2013, 10:00am until 2:00pm at the East Brunswick Cultural Arts CenterFor a list of vendors and more information about future farmers markets: http://www.friendsebec.com/farmersmarket2013.htm
